Keeping a healthy and radiant skin routine may seem like a hassle to afford in the rather too disturbing economic situation of Nigeria because of the constant thoughts and budget for either rent, school fees, family support, savings and all.
For the ‘I have so many loads on my shoulder’ ladies, we know ourselves ooooo, Here is good news! You can create your own skin care treatments using common items you can find in your kitchen and they can just be as or more effective than the drugstore skin products.
Categorically, our skin could be the oily skin, dry skin, combination, sensitive or the normal skin type so the first step to a healthy skin routine is ascertaining your skin type.
A full skin care regimen involves exfoliating, cleansing, toning , moisturizing and spots treatments. Let’s see how we can incorporate these:
STEP 1
Exfoliating: This involves removing dead skin cells and particles from the skin to encourage a brighter complexion.
For oily skin: A mixture of sea salt and oil (like olive or almond) creates a natural scrub that will help remove impurities without stripping excess oils.
For Normal/combination skin: A homemade sugar scrub is a wonderful natural exfoliator.
For dry skin: A sugar and honey scrub can eradicate dead dry skin and lock in some moisture into the skin.
STEP 2
Cleansing: oil cleansing is idle for all skin types as it helps to keep the skin supple and moisturized
For oily skin: the type of oil to be used is castor oil as it keeps the skin from being too oily, we don’t want to start looking like fried early morning puff puff lol!
For Normal/combination skin: A mixture of castor oil and any other oil like olive or almond oil is recommended.
For dry skin: castor oil is a more drying oil so we would recommend olive oil or almond oil for cleansing.
STEP 3
Moisturizing:
Oily skin: this with oily skin who need less of moisturizing as the oil from cleansing is enough.
Normal/ Combination : a dab of either body lotion, Shea butter or coconut oil is good enough. A yoghurt-milk mixture is also very nice.
Dry skin: plain organic shea butter and coconut oil and aloe Vera paste is a good moisturizer .
Step 4
Spot removal
Generally homemade spot removing products include lemon, Apple cider vinegar, green tea, turmeric , papaya and aloe Vera gel. You could make a paste of two or more of these ingredients and dab gently on problem areas.
Step 5
Toner: most of these natural products tones up the skin; turmeric , lemon and Apple cider vinegar are powerful toning ingredients! So you see!!!! We got some extra cash to save up!
Ladies please and please! Sensitive skin as the name implies are skin types prone to inflammation, stinging and itching ,redness and burning sensations when random products are applied hence, the need to use skin care products sparingly is important. So if you have sensitive skin, a splash of warm water, a dab of rose water and the use of fragrance- free body soaps might just be all you need.
Powerful and intelligent women! I hope we found this helpful???? Do we still need the frivolous visits to the drug store all in the name of Skin care?? Yeh! I can bet we are all improving with our cautious-spending and saving habits already! Yipeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
